The Go Red for Women Luncheon and Educational Forum is an event meant to educate women about their risks of cardiovascular diseases, and how to better protect themselves and their families, from heart disease and stroke. The event takes a critical step toward raising women’s awareness that heart disease remains their number-one cause of death.
The Go Red Luncheon begins with educational break-out sessions covering all forms of women-focused wellness, includes a wonderful silent auction and adds a multitude of exhibitors aimed at health and wellbeing in women. Once the Luncheon begins it is nonstop with educational speakers, entertainment and a fabulous, heart-healthy meal prepared by the Head Chef of the Holiday Inn By The Bay in beautiful Portland, Maine. This year, the meal will be a creation of the culinary students at Westbrook Technical School!
This year, the Go Red Luncheon is proud to present Loretta LaRoche as our keynote speaker. Loretta is “an internationally acclaimed stress management and humor consultant whose wit, and irreverent humor, has, for over 30 years raised the humor potential in all of us. Loretta has starred in 7 one-woman PBS specials on humor and optimism (two of which received Emmy Award nominations), has authored and published eight books including: “Relax, You May Only Have A Few Minutes Left,” “Life Is Not A Stress Rehearsal,” “Life Is Short: Wear Your Party Pants,” “Kick Up Your Heels Before You’re Too Short To Wear Them” and her newest, “Lighten Up.”
Additionally, the American Heart Association’s Go Red Luncheon is proud to award our 2011 Crystal Heart Award to Dr. Dora Ann Mills!
Also, hear local professor, Elise Bolda, PhD, from the Muskie School of Public Service tell her survivor story.
Women who understand their risk of heart disease and know the steps to prevent it are better equipped to avert this serious – and mostly preventable – health threat. The Luncheon is a truly wonderful event that mixes education, passion for the cause and entertaining speakers and performers, while raising money to educate and to support scientific research. Don’t miss it!

A woman at your table will have a "heart" story. Someone in your row at the breakout session will have found a way to eat baked, not fried, for her whole family. That exercise and diet plan you've been looking for, the one that is actually doable? The woman next to you in line for coffee is going to tell you to forget diets, and become a BetterU.
Together the women of Go Red can bring a voice to this silent killer to help save lives. We can listen to what our hearts are telling us, talk to our doctors, and spread the word to our friends and community about making the right choices and taking action.
Go Red For Women needs you to shatter the silence by choosing to Speak Up about heart disease. Be part of the movement, make choices, speak up and spread the word. By sharing this commitment with Go Red For Women, together we can help save lives. Be a part of this extraordinary day.
Our Hearts. Our Choice.
